A large space station designed for support of other vessels, whether or not they are Federation. Using the design of smaller research stations, such as Regula One, Starfleet expanded on it greatly, and it is now a common sight in the Federation. The Internal Docking bay is capable of housing several ships. The Starbase-type is very heavily armed, and has proved its worth time and time again, it should remain in use for many years to come.

The Starbase-type proved invaluable during the Dominion War, with Starbase 375 becoming a base of operations during the Dominion's temporary control of DS9 in 2374.
