What is ST-I Wiki
The main purpose of this site is to provide detailed information about Star Trek starships and technology. ST-I wiki is the companion site for Star Trek Intelligence.
Contributing
Before you can contribute to the wiki you need to register with ST-I Wiki. After you do this, you will be given the ability to create new articles and maintain existing ones. This is your forum for helping to improve Star Trek Intelligence and in general sharing your contributions to articles, so create and update all the articles you want, every little bit helps. If you consider yourself a wiki expert, corrections and enhancements to the wiki syntax are greatly needed.
Before you start to contribute you should take a look at our Style Manual. Here you will find the standard layout of ST-I Wiki articles that will help you in editing. After you finish reading that page feel free to jump right in.
If you are new to wikis and have never edited one before, take a look at our ST-I Wiki Manual. This page will give you some basic wiki syntax and some special features that ST-I wiki supports.
What needs to be done?
- Spelling and grammar errors are the easiest to fix. This requires almost no knowledge of wiki syntax and is an excellent way to contribute.
- Updating existing starship information is also easy. If possible please include the source for your information in the reference section.
- Updating and improving wiki syntax is also helpful but it does require basic knowledge of wiki editing syntax.
- Many articles need to be created or expanded. This will also require at least basic knowledge of MediaWiki editing. Please try to follow existing Style Manual when ever possible.
- Creating a reference section for each starship page with informational sources will help future editors.
- Adding external web links for each starship page will help create an expansive feel for the wiki.
- If you see a link which is in red instead of blue it means it's a wanted page. If you believe you have enough knowledge about the subject to contribute, then feel free to click that link and create a new article.
There are many ways to contribute beyond this list, these are here to get you started.
Policies
ST-I Wiki polices have been create to improve the user experience. Until formally written, general common sense policies apply to the ST-I Wiki. These include but are not limited any spam, inappropriate content, or intentional defacing if wiki pages will result in an immediate banning of the user, IP, or domain. Improving Articles
ST-I wiki has provided several resources to help the improvement of articles. First when an article needs to be improved please add one of the maintenance templates category. Examples of these include cleaning up an article, adding more information, and merging separate articles.
A summary of all the maintenance tags can be found on the maintenance category.
Discussion
If you have an issue with or a question about the content on an article you can use that articles talk page to start a public discussion. All you need to do is click the 'Discussion' link at the top and click the '+' next to the 'Edit' link to start a new topic of conversation. If your question or issue pertains to the actions of an individual user it is best to start the discussion on their 'User' page. This will tend to result in a speedier resolution.
This is an excellent method to talk about adding new content that you think would improve the page or updating the page with unverified(able) information.
